SCHOOL BACKGROUNDThe Dance Connection LLC, parent company of Academy of Fine Arts and it's programs, is a private performing and fine arts school that offers many opportunities for students and teachers alike. The school has been located at its current location in Woodward since 1992 and offers a complete facility of over 9,000 sq feet of space in Woodward. Enid Academy of Fine Arts will be opening late summer of 2012 in Enid OK and offers a wonderful facility of 12,000 square feet. Owasso location will also open the winter of 2013 in a 9,000 square foot facility.

Currently, we are the only facility that offers a variety of classes in dance, music, gymnastic, cheerleading and swimming(Woodward location only at this time) ,in one location, in the  Woodward and Enid area. We cater mainly to children and the majority of our students are between the ages 2yrs-17 yrs of age. We do welcome adult students.

We realize that most of our students will not become professional dancers or musicians out of choice. We strive to provide a fun but educational environment with well organized administration and first rate equipment and facility.  The atmosphere of our school is based on positive and up lifting opportunities for all. Our philosophy as posted on the website lets parents know that every child/student that walks through our doors is important to us and is an important opportunity to touch our community and the future of our world.

WHY TEACH WITH US?There are several places you could possibly teach preschool education, music or dance in the area. So why should you consider teaching at our school instead? Well, we believe there are many positive reasons you may want to give us consideration. So please read on.

MUSIC TEACHING POSITIONS As a music teacher you can either teach privately in your house, in a students home, music store or school. There are pros and cons to all. If you teach in your home or a students home, the upside is that you can keep all of the money you charge  the student. Since you have no expenses like rent , a receptionist or advertisement, insurance, etc you do not have to pay out a percentage to overhead costs. There are also down sides of teaching in your home or your students homes. It can be hard to keep your schedule constantly full with new students. Getting a full schedule can be difficult and expensive if you have to run classified ads or small newspaper ads. Even if you are a good, well-liked teacher, it can take a long time for referrals and word of mouth to fill your schedule. If you are driving to a students house you also have to factor in the driving time between students which limits the amount of teaching you can actually do in one day or evening.

The other downside of teaching on your own can be the difficulty in enforcing your attendance and payment policies. No one likes being a collection agent. It can be difficult to concentrate on your teaching while trying to keep track of who owes money and to make sure you are paid.

If you are teaching on your own, it can also be difficult to enforce your teaching policies and have your time respected. For example, if a student tells you they are going to Disney World for the next two weeks, it can be difficult to still make them pay for their lesson time. Many students will refuse to pay for those missed lessons because they think : " I'm not getting my lessons so why should I pay?" They do not realize that they are also paying for the time slot to be kept open for them.

Chances are you can't book another student in that lesson time for just two weeks, so if you don't charge the student in Disney World to save their spot, you have just lost two weeks of pay. If that scenario happens a couple of times per month it can greatly reduce your earnings.

Now let's look at teaching at a private music school. The downside is you don't get paid as much per student (well, maybe). At least you do not keep everything that comes in for the lessons. The pay per student you teach may be lower due to overhead of administering the programs, such as rent, advertising, receptionist, utilities, class insurance (you already have that, correct?) and other administrative expenses. The upside to it all is that you can have a consistently full schedule of students each day and less stress. Being paid a little less per student but having 10 or 11 students in a day will actually mean you earn more overall.

Another pro to teaching in our music school is that you do not have any collection hassles or bill pay. You only have to focus on the teaching. Also our music school provides a professional educational environment that is stimulating to the students. It is free from distractions found in a home such as ringing of phones or doorbells, TVs or noisy family members.

Those are the general differences between teaching on your own and teaching in a music school.

REASONS WHY MUSIC TEACHERS CHOOSE TO TEACH AT OUR SCHOOL1. A constant flow of new students to keep the schedule as full as possible.

Over the course of the year, students can move or quit. This can leave a teacher with gaps or holes in their schedule. Most students register and start lessons in September. Most teachers only advertise for new students in August and September.

At our school, a lot of money is spent on marketing and advertising year round to keep our teacher's schedules as full as possible. We advertise through newspapers, direct mail, community publications, yellow pages and other media to constantly attract new students. We are continually registering new students for our private school even during typically slower registration months like May and June.

2. Extras are taken care of---your only responsibility is to teach.

We offer full time front desk administration to handle all of the "details" of teaching. From scheduling to collecting fees or arranging an accompanist for festivals and recitals, these details are handled by our administration and not the teacher. This means the teacher is free to plan and focus on teaching and not get bogged down on administration duties.

3. Your time is respected and you are paid whether or not the student shows up.

Teachers are paid  for lessons whether students attend or not. If a registered student misses classes for school trips or vacations, the teacher is still paid. The only time a student is given an extra makeup lesson is if the student is sick or has a death of an immediate family member, and then only three makeups are offered per semester, or six per school year. Two make ups are allowed for the same instances during the summer sessions. Make up lessons are scheduled through the office and at the availability of the teacher and a music room.  If a student does not pay for the missed lessons or has an uncollected debt, the teacher is still paid until we officially notify the teacher that the student has dropped. Our priority for our teachers is to make sure your time is not abused and your teaching day can be as productive as possible.

DANCE/GYMNASTIC/CHEER TEACHING AND COACHING POSITIONS
As a teacher of movement arts, you have a large selection of studios and gyms in Oklahoma that you could teach at. If most facilities offer the same type of classes and schedules, why would you want to teach at ours? The main difference is  how we administer a program and how that affects your satisfaction and ability to focus on your teaching.

At some locations, the teacher is contracted to do most of the work and the facility just furnishes the space. At our facility, all of the administrative duties of the program are done for you. There is no collections of fees, advertising, scheduling, contacting students or any other administrative duty for you to perform. Your time and energy is spent on teaching and choreographing for your classes.

REASONS WHY TEACHER/COACHES CHOOSE OUR SCHOOL
1. Small class sizes

We limit class sizes to make classes easier to control and monitor for teachers and to give more personalized attention to students. Our classes for ages 2-3 are limited to a maximum of 6 students per class; ages 4-6 (Pre-K & Kindergarten) is limited to a maximum of 8-10 ; classes for ages 6 and up are limited to 12 per class. Adult classes are limited to 12.

Smaller classes mean a more controlled and better learning environment for the students. For the teachers, it means less stress and the ability to catch mistakes in technique prior to the mistakes becoming bad habits that are difficult to break. A smaller class also allows the teachers to develop a working relationship with the students that is encouraging and positive.

2.Full time administrative support

In many facilities there is no receptionist on duty. This means that the teachers are faced with administration details when they should be concentrating on teaching. We have full time front desk administration during class times to handle routine questions, absence tracking, collecting of fees and any other details that arise.

3.Floating Marley Floors in all studios

We use top grade professional marley floors in all dance studios. Our dance floors rest on a system of foam that helps prevent injuries and fatigue. A good quality floor is high consideration when teaching dance for a few hours a day. A supportive quality floor allows you to protect your most important assets---your body and your ability to teach.

4. Extras are taken care of

We try to take care of all of the extra details throughout the year. Teachers are not required to collect fees or do any costume measuring. We have a full time seamstress that will help with the measuring and sewing of costumes . We also take care of all the organization of yearly recitals. We try to have everything well organized so the teachers are free to concentrated on teaching and nothing else.

PRESCHOOL -JR KINDERGARTEN EDUCATION POSITIONSWe offer a program of arts based preschool- kindergarten education. The program offers a an education in numbers, alphabet, science, reading, memory skills, days of the week, months of the year, weather, life skills, art, music making, singing, musical instrument recognition, creative movement/dance, drama, gymnastics and swimming lessons during the summer session.

The program is supplemented with national programs such as Powerful Words ( a character building program), Leap N Learn (creative movement), Gym and Learn ( gymnastics and more) and Music Pups (certified music program).

REASONS WHY YOUNG STUDENT EDUCATORS SELECT OUR PROGRAM?1. Not the typical

Our Move-N-Learn program is not the typical preschool education. It is more. It is a proven fact that preschool age children learn best in doing.  Facts also point to the fact that students that receive education in the arts at an early age are more prepared for public school and do better in scoring on tests. Our school is very active in movement and learning, thus making the mind and body connection early in life.

2. Administration is done for the teachers

By having a full time office staff for the entire facility, the Move-N-Learn benefits by having office personnel in charge of making parent contacts entering absences and attendance tracking as well as a lot of other details. Teachers focus on preparing lesson plans for class and teaching the students to a high level.

3. A new frontier

We are the first arts based preschool education in the NW quadrant of the state and are branching out into other areas. We continue to explore new programs and elements to bring into the school for total enhancement of the students. This past year we  added Spanish  and French language skills, computer and pre-piano, and are looking at adding more technology to the course work.

TEACHER TESTIMONIALS
Imagine an atmosphere where collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning are not only encouraged but are the basis for everything that happens. That is the atmosphere at the Academy of Fine Arts.

I have worked in public and private school settings. Although some schools claim to support these ideals, the majority of the time they are thrown out and replaced with the current party line or whatever will please the current angry parent.

The Academy of Fine Arts supports, encourages, trains, and takes care of their teachers. They encourage the exploration of new ideas and incorporate them into the setting and curriculum. They support teachers as a whole person and encourage the growth of all sides of a person. After all, a well rounded teacher helps to grow well rounded students.

The Academy of Fine Arts is a wholesome, nurturing, and welcoming environment for child and teacher alike. That's what makes coming to work every day worth it.
